“Haile Selassie,” named after the Ethiopian Emperor, worshiped today as a Christ incarnate and messianic figure of the Rastafari Movement, is heavy in Rastafarian discourse, and also highly reminiscent of 2007′s Cassadaga. In an session with Interview Magazine, Oberst stated: “I liked the idea of having a record that’s reggae-influenced but not musically.”
